Another album I missed when it first came out and just discovered is Pure by The Primitives. I like it! It mixes the prettiness of 60s girl group sounds with the angst and quiet anger of late 80s British pop.
Tracy Fey writes on the allmusic.com website: On "Shine," "All the Way Down," and "I Almost Touched You," guitarist P.J. Court takes over lead vocals, and the band explores a more psychedelic-influenced sound that wouldn't seem out of place on a Stone Roses album.
